Some updates for the start of the week.
Motorhead cancel shows
Motorhead has cancelled shows after Lemmy suffers from an "unspecified hematoma" (basically a blood clot). All these middle-age rockers are starting to suffer from a lifetime of hard rocking and partying. Last week Lemmy got a defibrillator installed in his chest to help control his heart beat and it seems now that the band has announced they've been forced to cancel some show dates.
Motorhead are scheduled to release their new album, Aftershock in September.
Will these health issues slow Lemmy down?
Slayer's future questioned?
According to a feature story in the just-released issue of Guitar World on the life and death of Jeff Hanneman , there were a number of quotes from Hanneman's band members in Slayer questioning whether the band can continue without Hanneman.
Tom Araya (frontman/bassist) was asked what it would be like moving on without Hanneman and he said:
"After 30 years, it would literally be like starting over. To move forward without Jeff just wouldn’t be the same, and I’m not sure the fans would be so accepting of that drastic a change. Especially when you consider how much he contributed to the band musically. And you can have someone sit in for him, but there’s no one on this planet that can do what Jeff did. There’s no replacing him."
But Kerry King is fairly clear, stating:
"I don't think we should thros in the towel just because Jeff's not here."
It would be terrible to see Slayer stop playing, and it looks like there will still be some more Slayer live gigs, but time will tell whether we will see any new material.
