Foals are a 5-piece band from Oxford, England. Whilst predominantly categorised by indy pop they also contain funk, dance, and math rock influences. Lead singer Yannis Philippakis’ fronts the band with his pleasant, slightly nasaly voice, which sits nicely on top of the bands easy-going, groove inspiring melodies. The band includes Philippakis (Vocals, Guitar, Live Drums), Jack Bevan (Drums), Jimmy Smith (Guitar), Edwin Congreave, (Keyboard, Backing Vocals), and Walter Gervers (Bass, Backing Vocals). They released their debut album Antidotes in 2008 and followed that up with 2010’sTotal Life Forever which was nominated for the 2010 mercury music prize. Whilst receiving modest success with their first release, peaking at number 3 in the charts in the UK, it failed to make any real impression in other parts of the world. Fortunately through the groundwork achieved on Antidotes they were able to expand with 2010’s Total Life Forever which seeing commercial success in the UK, Ireland, France, and Australia. An extensive touring schedule in 2010 saw them further build on their fan base through appearances at Glastonbury and Reading Festival and coupled and with an abundance of dates all over the world they're finally getting the attention they deserve.
Foals are a feel good, groovy band that make you want to dance, enjoy life, and with the success of their latest release, have many listeners eagerly anticipating their next move!
